Why Chemistry at Gono Bishwabidyalay?

The Department of Chemistry at Gono Bishwabidyalay is a degree awarding department, which was established in 2014. In pursuance of the current education policy of the government, Gono Bishwabidyalay, under the Faculty of Science and Engineering, started running this department, which is presently offering four years degree (honors) course in Chemistry. The Department of Chemistry at Gono Bishwabidyalay is one of the largest and most research-oriented chemistry departments in Bangladesh. This department has been playing a pioneer role in our country to produce competent teachers starting from secondary level to undergraduate and postgraduate levels and preparing chemists.

Chemistry is a great career choice because it is a very broad field that enables you to specialize in one or several areas. You can determine which area you want to work in based on your own knowledge, skills, and interests.

 

Career opportunities

Chemist plays a fundamental role in science, engineering, and technology. Plant growth and metabolism, production of inorganic fuels, formation of igneous rocks, the role of ozone in the atmosphere, the degradation of environmental pollutants, the action of drugs, and the establishment of forensic evidence are understood only from the knowledge and perspective of chemistry. Knowledge of chemistry contributes to the advancement of our daily life in easing poverty and eradicating most of the deadly diseases, traveling faster and making our lives more convenient and comfortable. Also chemist plays a vital role in developing crop-enhancing, safe agricultural chemicals to ensure a constant and viable food supply and life-saving pharmaceuticals, pesticides, plastic, glass, cement, leather, ceramic, paper, synthetic fibers and etc. Some other Chemistry degree jobs such as Chemical technician, Toxicologist, Chemistry teacher, Water chemist, Analytical chemist, Synthetic chemist, Quality control, Geochemist, Oceanographer, Materials scientist, Chemical engineer, Pharmacologist etc.
